FRA, the National Defence Radio Establishment, is the Swedish national authority for Signals Intelligence.

Welcome to FRA, the National Defence Radio Establishment.

FRA is a civil authority subordinated to the Ministry of Defence. FRA’s main site is located at Lovön, just west of Stockholm. Our Signals Intelligence activities are carried out from different locations throughout the country.

FRA supplies intelligence to the Government of Sweden, to the Swedish Armed Forces and to other concerned authorities.

FRA also provides cyber security services for selected government authorities and individual business operators who handle information deemed to be sensitive from a vulnerability point of view or in a security or defense policy aspect. FRA deals with detection and counter measures against cyber-attacks aimed at Swedish critical national IT-infrastructure.

FRA was established in 1942. In connection with the 75th anniversary, a brief history of the FRA was published.
